We had two meeting with our tutors and Nela in week 6.
These were the notes we took from those meetings:

Meeting with Jennifer:
Look at consumerist psychology
Don't just make assumptions, do research
Maybe she has been focusing on an older demographic
We are coming at it from our demographic, to attract millennials, iced chai would be a way.
Look at tank model. Preparing in front of you. Do we show what goes into it? The organic.
Glass - not a fast product, something that can be recycled. Gives value. Nela doesn't want instant. We have done something with packaging that isn’t instant.
We need to make sure that there is nothing on the market already like it.
Any claims make sure they aren’t just assumptions.
Iced tea / iced chai latte. Different. Give off different feels.
Have a tasting in week 7.
Where would we source that? At sunday market people make soy milk themselves. Frame the syrup in a different way. Does it not just sit in the tea section? Because people who don’t like tea wouldn’t go in there.
Honey - can use in many different ways. Clothing is a metaphor - garment that you can wear in many different ways.
Do millennials want products quick? Or do they use the syrup to make different things? Is she only appealing to market who likes and has time to take things slow.
Presentation - week 7 1pm to 2.45 is nelas bracket.
Iced chai = expanding, chocolate = collaborating with another brand
Other notes:
Now that we’ve experimented, how will this product sit now that we’ve established that it’s more than just a tea?
Can we frame it in a different way and visualise it in a different place?
- We need something development in which Nela is also on board with.
- What we understand about Nela thus far is that she wants to expand her product more, but overall is still restrained. Does she need to take a risk?
- A lot of good business strategies involve taking risks
- Consumers do like to try different things these days (it’s what Whittaker’s has done for example).
Meeting with Nela:
How do we educate the consumer, so if they like the taste and it’s good for them it’s a win win.
An art piece? On product? “Table numbers. Design that has number but also all the ingredients”. Definitely an education - go to drink if you don’t drink coffee.
Children can have it. Child friendly - health over hot chocolate . 2nd of september in porirua moore wilsons is testing that we can go to.
It really depends on the cafe manager or Same store same clients purchase.
Nela has put it in Ice cream place next to beach babylon - this means essentially she is ok with it cold. She did this because it was summer and people stopped
Chai to go - profitability margin lessens with to go
Chai to go - profitability margin lessens with to go
Pouch to go - foil pouches to go, printed on to go. - “ individual market. Not cafee market” . bottle and cap is 42c. Label is 25c.
Iced chai in cafe we should look at - they can put ice in the glass.. No packaging costs etc.
Gold for curry powder - she's going to do this. 21 ingredients in the mix. 2.5 tablespoons is all you need for 2 to 3 . She's doing cooking classes. Curry powder was always forefront more than the chai. Something she always did. Marketing around the chai blend being 30 cups - people buy this tea blend but they don't go through it. Only people who have it will get through it. Is it a matter of packaging it smaller? So less money they come back faster? Can we bring this concept to iced chai.
“Most business will have more than one item. Hard to sustain revenue over a few items. If you hit these shops, retail shops they will take on your products, they know nela. “How many people look at you tube? Nearly zero!” a lot of people f it up. A Lot of people don't go that extra extent to do. The bottle is easier to use. Curry mix is good because it's simple. --- carry on this concept into new product ? simple?
There is a niche out there who take the product and do it the traditional way . 5 curries in a mix. She's unsure what size because it needs to be price effective. First blend of curry powder like it. Creamy curry like butter chicken, then the ingredients that are going into it will be slightly different, but the nelas chai spice will be the same.
